My father, Robert Lynn Lane served on the Tico. He passed away in 1997, rarely talking about his experience, traumatized by the attacks in Jan. '45. I learned about the cruise books while talking to Adm. Ted Fellowes who was aboard the ship several years later. I would love to find a copy of the cruise book of that era. Does anyone have knowledge of one?

Great ship, great crew. Was homeported in Subic Bay P.I. while doing duty in the Tonkin Gulf. Two trips to Sasebo, Japan and one to Hong Kong. Wouldn't mind going back to some of those places someday.

It is coming up in a few days.... 50th anniversary of JFK killing. That day we were at sea off the coast of San Diego, I wondered into the Crypto room to check equipment, when the bells on every teletype machine started ringing usually meaning a top secret message coming in. In the clear was the message that JFK had been shot. Within minutes we were at GQ and the Capt told the ship what had happened.

Being on the TICO was great duty. I enjoyed it. Wonder what happened to all the folks I served with back then. Both Marines and Navy.

Served with LCDR H.C. Holmes, Lt.jg J.D. Master, Bowker, Graves, Miles, Gaddis,Johnson,Skelton, Garcia. Would be great to hear from any or all of my "old" (and we are now) officers and shipmates. We had some interesting days during the Gulf of Tonkin incident. After leaving Tico ,I repported for diver's training in Washington, D.C. and then on to New London, Conn. to a submarine rescue ship. Totally different world. ASR'sare a pretty rough ride in that cold North Atlantic..Hope to hear from whoever.
