I am looking for information on my great uncle, Ulysses SID Ivy. I just found family (my mother was adopted) and a lot of the family that knew the genealogy has passed away. A cousin of mine now has a patch of his and we are trying to get as much information as we can.
I know the USS Ticonderoga was the last ship he was on board of from 1944-1945. He was a 2nd Mate CoxSwain and also served most of his time on the USS Enterprise during Midway and several other battles.
He also had a brother, Travis Clifford Ivy, but he did not serve on this ship.
Please email me if anyone has any informati or possible information.
Thanks!

My Grandfather John Perry Travis from Navarro County TX was stationed aboard when the carrier was hit.He told me his job was to take care of the planes, but didn't go into detail. He only told me about his service and the horrific damage caused by the Kamikaze strikes one time and did not speak of it again. I like to think he did his best to help those who were injured, but he was too emotional. He passed away in 1995. I just want to tell all of the survivors and all other servicemen and women thank you for your service. I have his dog tags and newspaper accounts of the hits on the Ticonderoga. I hold those dog tags dear and never far away from my person.
