I remember all the great liberty Ports, Subic Bay,Hong Kong,Yokosuka,Sasebo, Hawaii. The ships party in San Diego was a blast. Interesting that in civilian life I worked for IBM and spent a large part of my working career in those countries. I am tired of rice! I worked for LTJG St.John in the Administrative Office (X-Division) generating the Plan Of the Day along with other Administrative Duties. Those were memorable times in my life. Met some really great people! Also remember the Gulf Of Tonkin engagement as the Vietnam war was just ramping up. Those were the days when the U.S.A. took a proactive stand against aggression.

Tico was the best. I just visited San Diego for the first time since I left Tico in 68. From across the water the Quay wall didn't look much different and it had 2 carriers in port. The best reward while on Tico was making sure the crew and support ships got their mail.

50 years ago today ,Aug 5, 1964, we were in the mix in the gulf of Tonkin! I was the port cat operator and had never seen planes leave our cats so heavy and they all came back empty of their rockets, bombs and missiles. Then we launched them again and again and again.look'n for "Dog"and " Skip"

My time in the Navy was one of the best time in my life. There were some hard times out at sea, not much rest and lots of work. The Tico was to me the best Carrier in the navy at the time, the guys on the ship were great friends, they had your back. I relive those day a lot on the Tico. Anyone who remembers me feel free to e-mail me.

My father, Harry Patterson, passed away in 2008. He was very proud of his service. He is buried in the Delaware Veteran's Cemetery. If anyone has any photos they could post from that time period, his family would be much obliged. My email is [email protected]. Thanks.
